Dental PPO
Managed dental care is one of the newer methods of dental coverage and it works very much like managed health insurance. The chances are, if someone is signed up to a managed care dental program, it is in the form of Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) dental insurance. Managed care programs including dental PPOs are popular because they offer policyholders a balance between cost and covered services.
Unlike Dental HMO plans, Dental PPO plans do not require you to visit with a dentist within the provider's accepted network, however, by staying within said network, PPO providers will award you by offering substantial monthly savings (The network is generally much larger than a Dental HMO plan so it is recommended that you stay within the network as much as possible) Due to the makeup of a PPO plan, it can be said to be more or less a combination of an HMO and an Indemnity plan in that it has a highly flexible network.
Although costs can vary significantly from one provider to the next, dental PPO plans tend to have an average monthly cost that ranges from about $15 - $20 per month.
